갈색꽃구름버섯은 활엽수의 고목과 죽은 가지에 무리지어 자라는 목재부후성 담자균류입니다. 얇고 질긴 반원형 또는 부채꼴의 갓이 층층이 겹쳐 자라며, 표면에는 적갈색과 황갈색의 동심원 무늬가 나타납니다. 구름버섯과 닮았지만 아랫면에 미세한 구멍이 없이 매끄러운 것이 특징입니다. 목재의 리그닌을 분해하는 백색부후균으로, 죽은 나무를 분해하고 유기물을 숲으로 되돌리는 물질 순환에 중요한 역할을 합니다.

Stereum ostrea. A wood-decaying basidiomycete found growing in clusters on dead hardwood and fallen branches. Its thin, leathery, semicircular or fan-shaped caps grow in overlapping layers, marked by concentric bands of reddish and yellowish brown. Although it resembles Trametes versicolor, it can be distinguished by its smooth, poreless underside. As a white-rot fungus, it breaks down lignin in dead wood and plays an important role in returning organic matter to forest ecosystems.

무당버섯(Russula emetica). 여름에서 가을 사이 침엽수림, 특히 소나무 아래 습한 땅에서 자랍니다. 붉은 갓과 흰 주름, 흰 줄기를 가지며, 나무 뿌리와 균근 관계를 맺어 서로 양분을 주고받습니다. 화려한 붉은 갓으로 쉽게 눈에 띄지만, 생으로 먹으면 위장 장애를 일으키는 독버섯입니다. 학명의 ‘emetica’는 구토를 일으킨다는 뜻으로, 그 특성이 이름에 그대로 담겨 있습니다.

Russula emetica. Found in damp coniferous woodland, especially beneath pine trees, from summer through autumn. It has a red cap, white gills, and a white stem, forming a mycorrhizal relationship with tree roots. Its vivid red cap makes it easy to spot, yet eaten raw it causes stomach upset. The species name emetica means to induce vomiting, its nature written directly into its name.

산수국(Mountain Hydrangea). 산에서 물을 좋아하는 꽃이라는 뜻을 지닌 이름으로 우리나라 경기도, 강원도 이남의 산골짜기 습한 곳에서 자생하며, 6월부터 8월 사이에 개화합니다. 토양의 산성도에 따라 흰색에서 연보라, 푸른색으로 색이 변하며, 꽃말은 ‘변하기 쉬운 마음’입니다.

Mountain Hydrangea (Hydrangea serrata). Its name means a flower that loves water in the mountains. It grows wild in the moist valleys of the mid-southern regions of Korea, blooming between June and August. Its color shifts from white to violet to blue depending on the acidity of the soil. The flower’s meaning: a heart that changes easily.
